2) This paper constructs a model in which international trade influences on productivity of firms. We show that firms tend to offer high incentive scheme to their agents, if the fixed costs to export their products are low. We also show that the tendency to offer high incentive scheme does not monotonically diminish with the degree of product differentiation.

Globalization and Urban Growth in India: Evidence for Bangalore

1) This paper aims at economic analysis of globalization and urban growth in India with special reference to Bangalore (capital of Karnataka State, and globally known as Silicon Valley of India, IT Hub of Asia, and IT Capital of India) in South India. India’s recent process of globalization is identified with the start of national economic reforms since July 1991. India’s degree of globalization in terms of internationalization of trade and capital is shown to be low at global levels.  Patterns of urbanization in the post-globalization period show higher concentration of population, employment, consumption, and lower poverty in bigger class-size cities.  A case study of Bangalore offers new insights and evidence for information and communication technology (ICT) sector as a major source for selective globalization and urban growth.  Estimated combined contribution of ICT manufacturing and services to Bangalore’s economic growth is compared with regional, national and international (OECD average) levels. Empirical results support for a remarkable performance of Bangalore at all levels.  Available and new evidence are put together to explain the factors behind Bangalore’s phenomenal economic growth under globalization.
