Despite emerging academic interest in place-based policies, their impact on long-term structural transformation remains underinvestigated, especially in developing countries. This study explores the combined effects of infrastructure development (highway, industrial park, and school establishments) in transforming agrarian communities in the Philippines using 40 years of family dynasty data, combined with satellite imagery and public administrative data. The results suggest that infrastructure development has led to structural transformations by increasing the probability of male employment in modern sectors and facilitating female human capital investments. Additionally, both the demand and supply sides of labor are key to successful modernization through place-based policies. |
