To Graduate Students Taking Microworkshop for Credits

Dear students,

Thank you for your attention to our recent warning note and thus markedly improved attendance in our weekly Microworkshop. It remains necessary nonetheless for those of you who are officially registered for the course credit (i.e., in Microworkshop) to discuss your course grades with us.

Namely, if you do not want any course grades, or if you may or may not want an official course grade depending upon how good it is, please write to dsasaki@iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp by the 4th of January, 2007. If we do not hear from you, and if you are on our official course register (12 masters and 3 doctoral students are registered), you will automatically receive a grade which shall be one of the following:

A (excellent) if you give a presentation and also have attended regularly throughout the year;

B (good) if you give a presentation but have attended only intermittently;

C (fair) if you either give a presentation but have rarely attended, or give no presentation but have attended regularly;

F (fail) if you neither give a presentation nor have attended regularly -- beware, we shall not automatically convert F (fail) into # (withdrawn).

If you are completing your masters thesis, you may use your masters thesis presentation (if presented in Microworkshop) as your workshop presentation as well, although please do note that your masters thesis grade and Microworkshop grade may not always be the same as these are based upon distinct sets of criteria (for example, regular attendance forms an important part of Microworkshop grades).

The remainder of you (i.e., not completing your masters theses this year) who still want course credits are strongly encouraged to book a presentation slot -- we still have an open slot in February 2007.

May we thank you again for your attention,

Microworkshop coordinators 2006/2007.
