CIRJE-R-4: A Joint Conference of Seoul National University and University of Tokyo, Contemporary Economic Policy Issues in Asia II April 2005. *in English

PREFACE
The Center for International Research on the Japanese Economy (CIRJE) at the University of Tokyo has organized the second conferecne on Contemporary Economic Policy Issues in Asia with the Institute of Economics Research at the Seoul National University. The first conference on the same issues was held at the Seoul National University in February 1, 2004 in Seoul, Korea.
The joint research meeting came out from our perception that creating a common ground for research and discussions for economists from the two eminent universities is highly beneficial for promoting international perspectives in economic studies in both countries. At this year's conference, four papers have been presented by scholars from the two research institutes, covering common current policy issues of the Japanese and Korean economies including the industrial and financial policies, and the Asian financial problems. We have prepared the proceedings of this academic meeting in the hope that it will facilitate a mutual understanding on our academic exchanges among conference participants and also a broader range of researchers who could not attend the conference but have common interest on economic policy issues in Asia.
