CIRJE-J-114. Takeda, Yuka, "Data Sources for Poverty Analysis on Russia: What survey is useful for the Russian poverty issues?", June 2004.

This paper discusses the socio-economic surveys which are useful for analyzing the Russian poverty issues. In general, useful surveys for the poverty analysis on Russia are as follows: the family budget surveys and labour force surveys which are conducted by Goskomstat, and the RLMS (the Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Surveys).

During the 1990's, the transient poor dominates the poor in Russia. In addition, the working-age people are more often inclined to fall into poverty. Considering these situations in the country, it is highly important to examine the poverty dynamics (flows into and out of poverty), the economic activity of the working poor, and their relation. What survey is more useful for these issues? The paper concludes that the RLMS is the most useful survey for analyzing the issues.
